Live Weather Observations Online (Update)
Real-time weather observations in areas around the community are now available online.
Our community website now offers real-time weather data for the
community and surrounding areas.
Observations for Verdugo Potrero (Rancho Carrillo) are updated 24 hours each day. Clicking on the weather icon of our home page will lead to Weather Underground, where a variety of weather, radar, marine, celestial, and earthquake data are summarized (the link on our home page takes directly to Rancho Carrillo detailed weather).
The instrument recording local weather conditions is located at Lot 39 (Reardon's). It looks like this:
In addition to displaying local conditions on our website, this station is forwarding local readings (via satellite Internet) to a national network called Citizen Weather Observation Program (CWOP). CWOP in-turn feeds MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System), a group of cooperating agencies and individuals who agree to share data. Ultimately, the data is available to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) for use in preparation of national weather models and studies.
